Appointments to Ping Wo Fund Advisory Committee

   The Government today (September 7) announced the re-appointment of Professor Tam Sheung-wai as Chairperson of the Ping Wo Fund Advisory Committee for a term of two years. The appointment will take effect from tomorrow (September 8).

    The five serving non-official members, including Mr Chui Pak-ming, Mr Ho Hon-kuen; Mr Andrew Ma Chiu-cheung; Dr David Tsang Fan-kwong and Professor Angelina Yuen Tsang Woon-ki, have also been re-appointed.

    The Government has appointed the following new members to the committee.

(1) Ms Au Yuet-ching
    - secondary school principal
(2) Dr Ben Cheung Kin-leung
    - practising psychiatrist
(3) Mr Billy Lam Chek-yau
    - businessman in the logistic field
(4) Mr Lo Wing-hung
    - Chief Executive Officer of a newspaper group
(5) Dr Yuen Man-tak
    - educational psychologist

    All appointments are for two years with effect from tomorrow. The full list of the membership of the committee is as follows:

     The Ping Wo Fund, a charitable trust fund, was established under the Secretary for Home Affairs in September, 2003, with contributions from the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). The HKJC has contributed $25 million to the fund in the past two years and has undertaken to contribute $12 million to $15 million each year in the following three years. The fund also accepts public donations.

     The ambit of the Ping Wo Fund is mainly to finance research and studies into problems and issues relating to gambling; public education and other measures to prevent or alleviate problems relating to gambling; counselling, treatment and other remedial or support services for problem and pathological gamblers and those affected by them.
