Handover of stolen goods to Hong Kong Police
********************************************

Hong Kong Police today (September 7) received from the Guangzhou Customs District of the People's Republic of China a quantity of stolen goods which were reported missing in a robbery case at waters off Tuen Mun in February this year.

Regional Commander of Marine, Mr Au Hok-lam, represented the Hong Kong Police to receive the goods from Deputy Director General of the Guangzhou Customs District, Mr Chen Jianwen. The goods included seven 20-feet-long containers inclusive of a quantity of goods.

The case occurred at about 9 pm on February 19 this year when a barge berthed 200 metres off the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal. A 52-year-old male crew member was taking a rest inside a cabin on the barge when several culprits suddenly turned up. He was then tied up and pushed into a storeroom.

It was believed that the culprits used the derrick onboard to lift up seven 20-feet-long containers which carried illuminations, mint products, linen, processed food and enamelled tiles, with a total value of over HK$1.8 million.

Investigations revealed that the culprits fled with a vessel. A 34-year-old male person-in-charge of the barge made a report to the Police at about 10 pm when he returned to the barge.

Hong Kong Police informed their counterparts in the Mainland of the case for assistance. Subsequently in the small hours of February 20, officers from the Guangzhou Customs District discovered the stolen goods at waters off Qa'o Island near Nei Ling Ding Dao.

As a result of subsequent liaison between the two enforcement agencies , the stolen goods were handed over to Hong Kong today.
