The newly completed Kwai Chung Public Mortuary will become fully operational on Monday (September 5).
The new mortuary, located at Kwai Hei Street in Kwai Chung, is the largest among the public mortuaries operated by the Department of Health in terms of its storage capacity. It has a total storage capacity for 220 bodies.
The design of the new mortuary has been updated to meet the modern standards and protocols of mortuary work to ensure a safe and efficient service, concerning infection control, occupational safety and health, and environmental friendliness.
A spokesman for the department said, "With opening of the new mortuary in Kwai Chung, the Kowloon Public Mortuary with a capacity of 72 will be reserved for contingency use.
"The body storage capacity of Fu Shan Public Mortuary and Victoria Public Mortuary is 168 and 60 respectively."
