The Prosecutions Division of the Department of Justice has been awarded the Certificate of Merit of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Grenville Cross, SC, was presented with the Certificate of Merit today (August 29) by the President of the IAP, Mr Nicholas Cowdery, QC, at a special award ceremony conducted at the 10th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the IAP, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The certificate was awarded to the Prosecutions Division in recognition of its contribution to the work of the IAP, and its success in hosting the 2nd Asia and Pacific Regional Conference of the IAP in Hong Kong in November 2004.
Mr Cross described the award as a "great honour for the prosecutors of Hong Kong", and said it was "a welcome recognition of the status now enjoyed at the international level by our prosecution service".
The Prosecutions Division joined the IAP in 2001, as its 75th organisational member, and has played a full role since then in its affairs.
The IAP is the first and only world organisation of prosecutors. It was established in 1995 at the United Nations Offices in Vienna. The IAP is committed to developing close co-operation among the prosecutors of the world and to promote high standards of criminal justice. The IAP includes individual and organisational members from over 120 countries. The organisational members are drawn from every region of the world, and represent over 200,000 prosecutors.
