Commending the awardees, Mr Fung said: "In the award qualifying process, our awardees learnt how to cope with new challenges, get along with new friends and divide their time between studies and extra curricular activities.ˇ¨
ˇ§They have also enhanced their interpersonal skills and self-control through team building and enriched their experiences which will help them become responsible citizens,ˇ¨ he added.
During the ceremony, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Training), Mr Tse Shu-chun, presented Certificates of Appreciation to 10 instructors in recognition of their commitment and dedication in the past two years.
The HKAYP scheme, launched in Hong Kong in 1961, is aimed at building up young people's confidence and developing their potentials. Participants aged between 14 and 25 will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for completing specified activities in skills, service, expedition and physical recreation categories.
The Hong Kong Police Force first organised HKAYP activities at the Police Cadet School in 1973 and established the Hong Kong Police Operating Authority (HKPOA) in 1979, which is now one of the 18 operating authorities of the scheme, to co-ordinate relevant activities.
Last year, more than 4 600 young persons, or about 10 per cent of the total number of participants in the HKAYP scheme, took part in activities organised by the HKPOA.
