The Assistant Postmaster General (Business Development), Mr. Dan Choi and Managing Director of eBay HK & Singapore, Mr. Frederic de Bure today (August 26) announced their joint efforts to foster the growth of e-Commerce in Hong Kong.

The emergence of the Internet has created new opportunities for cross-border trading. To cope with the growth of business for online sellers, a new "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service" to provide customers with a faster and easier way to post bulk registered air mail items will be on trial from today to December 31, 2005.

This co-operation between eBay and Hongkong Post will provide much synergy for Internet trading as eBay delivers great business opportunities to Hong Kong sellers through its online platform, while Hongkong Post provides a total delivery solution to facilitate fulfilment of the orders.

The new "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service" simplifies the preparation work of online sellers in sending their registered mail to overseas customers. In the past, customers have to weigh and affix the required stamps on each individual item. Under the simplified charging system of the new service, they need only to preprint the HKP permit insignia onto the envelopes and present the items at one of our designated acceptance offices. This will save them much administrative work and valuable time.

Apart from providing a more customer-friendly service, a special website has also been set up to provide a one-stop solution to online sellers. Customers can obtain step-by-step instructions on the use of the new "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service". Through the website, online sellers can obtain current and useful information to meet their posting needs such as the posting restrictions of overseas destinations, an easy-to-use postage calculator and enhanced mail tracking facilities for major destinations.
