Appointment of Commissioner for Census and
Statistics

    The Government announced today (August 8) the appointment of Mr Fung Hing Wang, Deputy Commissioner for Census and Statistics, to succeed Mr Frederick Ho Wing Huen as Commissioner for Census and Statistics with effect from Thursday (August 11). Mr Ho will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.

    The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong said: "Mr Fung has been working in the Census and Statistics Department for over 30 years, and has extensive professional experience in census and statistics work as well as profound administrative and leadership skills. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Census and Statistics Department to meet the challenges ahead and enhance the effective service of the department."

    "I would also like to thank Mr Ho for his dedicated and meritorious service in the Government for more than 38 years. I wish him a happy retirement," said Mr Wong.

Mr Frederick Ho Wing Huen JP

    Mr Ho, aged 59, first joined the Government in the Education Officer Grade in 1966 and was later transferred to the Statistician Grade in 1972. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Statistician in 1977, to Assistant Commissioner for Census and Statistics in 1981 and to Deputy Commissioner for Census and Statistics in 1989. He has been the Commissioner for Census and Statistics since 1992.

Mr Fung Hing Wang, JP

    Aged 54, Mr Fung first joined the Government in the Statistician Grade in 1974. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Statistician in 1981, to Assistant Commissioner for Census and Statistics in 1988 and to Deputy Commissioner for Census and Statistics in 1996.
