Update on nominations for Chief Executive Election

    Mr Li Hau handed in a nomination form for the Chief Executive Election at the office of the Returning Officer today (June 9).

    Since nominations started on June 3, Mr Chan Yuet Tung, also handed in a nomination form last week.

    "The Returning Officer, Madam Justice Chu, will process the nominations and determine their validity in accordance with the law," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said.

    To qualify as a candidate, a nominee must be a Hong Kong permanent resident aged 40 or above, a Chinese citizen with no right of abode in any foreign country, and has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for a continuous period of not less than 20 years before the polling day. A nomination of a candidate shall be made by not less than 100 members of the Election Committee.

    The two-week nomination period will run until 5pm on Thursday, June 16.

    A poll is scheduled for Sunday, July 10, if more than one candidate is validly nominated.
