HK delegation to attend Avian Flu Meeting in
Vietnam

    A team of medical and public health professionals, led by the Controller of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health, Dr Leung Pak-yin, today (May 9) left for Hanoi, Vietnam to attend an international meeting on avian influenza organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

    During the three-day meeting (May 10-12), experts on avian flu, including those from countries with human cases, will share experiences and lessons learnt in the clinical and public health management of the highly pathogenic infectious disease with a view to strengthening collaboration.

    The Hong Kong delegation comprised of Head of Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Yuen Kwok-yung; Chief of service of Pulmonary and Palliative Care Unit, Haven of Hope Hospital, Dr Chan Kin-sang; and Consultant Community Medicine of the CHP, Dr Thomas Tsang.

    Also attending the meeting will be experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the WHO and clinicians and public health physicians from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
