Ag CE receives Independent Committee of Experts'
report on elections

*************************************************

The Acting Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, has received the Report of the Independent Committee of Experts for the Review on the Management, Planning and Conduct of Elections.

The Acting Chief Executive thanked the Independent Committee's chairman, Dr Daniel Tse Chi Wai, and the three members, Mr Philip Chen Nan Lok, Mr Daniel Lai and Mr Herbert Tsoi Hak Kong, for their dedication and hard work in conducting the review.

"We note that the report affirms that the integrity, fairness and impartiality of the 2004 Legislative Council Election were not compromised despite the chaos on the polling day," Mr Tsang said.

"The Committee has produced a comprehensive report spelling out its conclusions regarding the problems which occurred on the polling day. The Committee has also drawn up a number of recommendations. The government accepts the report's conclusions and recommendations, and will, together with the Electoral Affairs Commission, consider how to take forward the recommendations with a view to improving the practical arrangements for future elections," he said.

The full text of the report will be available on the Government webpage (http://www.info.gov.hk/info/report05/index.htm) later today.
