LegCo to Continue the Second Reading Debate on the
Appropriation Bill 2005

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

    The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (April 27) at 11am in the Legislative Council Chamber. During the meeting, Members will continue the Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2005 and Government officials will speak on the Bill.

    If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, Hon Albert Ho Chun-yan and Hon Cheung Man-kwong will move separately three resolutions under Rule 69(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to amend the Bill at the Committee Stage.

    The first two resolutions, to be moved by Hon Albert Ho Chun-yan, resolve that "head 122 be reduced by $45,530,000 in respect of subhead 000" and "head 122 be reduced by $80,000,000 in respect of subhead 103". The third resolution, to be moved by Hon Cheung Man-kwong, resolves that "head 144 be reduced by $3,232,000 in respect of subhead 000".

    After going through the Committee Stage, the Bill will be read the third time.

    Meanwhile, the Building Management (Amendment) Bill 2005, the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Bill, the Revenue (Allowances for Tax) Bill 2005, the Immigration (Amendment) Bill 2005 and the Child Care Services (Amendment) Bill 2005 will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Second Reading debates on these five bills will be adjourned.

    During the meeting, Members will ask the Government 20 questions on various policy areas and require written replies.

    Members of the public are welcome to observe the proceedings of the meeting from the public galleries of the Legislative Council Chamber. They may reserve seats by calling 2869 9399 during office hours. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
