Transcript of Executive Council Members' media session

******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

Following is the transcript (English portion) of a meet-the-media session by Executive Council members, Mr Leung Chun-ying, Mr Andrew Liao and Mrs Laura Cha, on the Policy Address this (January 12) afternoon.

Reporter: What is your view on the Policy Address and ...... ?

Mr Leung: The non-official Members of the Executive Council fully support the Policy Address just delivered by the Chief Executive. It is a very comprehensive Policy Address, reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the Special Administrative Region (SAR), the community and the work of the SAR Government as a whole. In particular, there are two focuses of the 11 areas in which the Chief Executive believes we need to pay attention to. One is the question of employment, the creation of more employment opportunities for all in Hong Kong and the reduction of unemployment. The other is the question of poverty-- how to deal with poverty, particularly inter-generational poverty issues. The Chief Executive is quite specific in a couple of areas with concrete proposals, but at the same time, he leaves, in a number of areas, for the society to contribute proposals and ideals. The Committee led by the Financial Secretary will be able to come out with proposals for the SAR Government.

Reporter: ......

Mr Leung: It is the question we need to review ourselves since the creation of the new political order, social order and economic order in 1997. We need to constantly review the situation in HK.

Reporter: ......

Mr Leung: The non-official Members of the Executive Council have a very clear duty stipulated in certain Articles of the Basic Law.
