A total of 764 prisoners in Stanley Prison have donated $141,788 to six international relief organisations to help victims of the tsunami disaster in South Asia.

The contributions were made at the request of the warm-hearted donors to the management of the Correctional Services Department in response to appeals.

The donations will be passed to the Hong Kong Red Cross, Medecins Sans Frontieres, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), World Vision Hong Kong, Oxfam and the Salvation Army, for emergency relief operations.

The donations were collected between January 3 and 5.
