Hongkong Post helps to collect donations

*****************************************

To help the victims of the earthquake and tsunamis in South Asia, Hongkong Post will make use of its one-stop payment service, "PayThruPost", to collect donations from the community on behalf of five international relief organisations starting from Sunday (January 2).

The five organisations are Hong Kong Red Cross, World Vision Hong Kong, Oxfam Hong Kong, Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF and The Salvation Army.

Starting from Sunday, the "PayThru Post" counters at the General Post Office, the Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office and the Airport Post Office*, apart from collecting payments on behalf of the Government and public utilities, will also help collect donations from members of the public during office hours.

From Monday (January 3), the "PayThru Post" counters at all Post Offices in Hong Kong (except two Mobile Post Offices) will offer donation collection services during office hours.

Donations can be made by cash, EPS or cheque; if paying by cheque, please make it payable to one of the above organisations. The "PayThru Post" will issue a receipt immediately. No administration fee will be charged.

The Postmaster General, Mr Allan Chiang, urged members of the public to donate, to help the victims rebuild their countries. He said Hongkong Post supported the relief effort in line with its slogan "Linking people, delivering business".

"We are not only urging our staff to make donations, but want to provide this service to help members of the public to make donations. We will do our best to see that the victims receive the donations from the Hong Kong community as soon as possible," Mr Chiang said.

For enquiries, please contact Hongkong Post's 24-hour enquiry hotline at 2921 2222.

* The General Post Office, the Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office and the Airport Post Office will be open from 9am to 2pm on Sunday (January 2).

Ends/Friday, December 31, 2004
