The Government today (December 31) announced that Professor Lam Kin-che, JP, had been reappointed as the Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) for two years from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2006.
Five new members are also appointed to the ACE. They are Mr James Graham; Professor Howard Huang Ju-chang, Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Ms Goretti Lau Wai-kuen and Mr Tsang Kam-lam.
"We welcome the appointment of the new members and the re-appointment of the chairman and incumbent members. We look forward to their contribution and support to the development of environmental protection policy," a spokesman for the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau said.
"We also thank the outgoing members, including Mr Otto Poon Lok-to, BBS; Professor David Lung Ping-yee, SBS, JP, and Professor Peter Ronald Hills, for their valuable advice and contribution to the ACE during their appointment period," the spokesman added.
The ACE keeps the state of the environment in Hong Kong under review and advises the Government, through the Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works, on appropriate measures which might be taken to combat pollution of all kinds, and to protect and sustain the environment.
The appointments, published in the Gazette today, will be effective from tomorrow (January 1, 2005).
