Retrofitting of noise barriers on Fanling Highway

The Highways Department today (September 13) signed a $139 million contract with Leader Civil Engineering Corporation Limited and Wai Kee (Zens) Construction & Transportation Company Limited Joint Venture to retrofit noise barriers on Fanling Highway near Choi Yuen Estate and Fanling Centre.

The department's Project Manager/Major Works, Mr Ng Kwok Kee, signed the contract on behalf of the Government.

Existing dwellings adjacent to the Fanling Highway near Choi Yuen Estate and Fanling Centre are exposed to traffic noise. The contract is for the construction of noise barriers along the verge and in the central reserve on these sections to mitigate noise impact. During the construction period, there will be temporary lane closures on Fanling Highway, and arrangements will be put in place to maintain the flow of traffic.

Works began in August this year and are expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
