Judicial Appointments

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

The Judiciary today (August 5) announced the re-appointments of two Recorders of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.

Mr Edward CHAN King-sang, SC, JP and Mr Ronny WONG Fook-hum, SC, JP are re-appointed Recorders of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for a term of three years starting from September 25 upon expiry of the current term.

The re-appointments were made by the Chief Executive in accordance with the recommendations of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

The biographical notes of the re-appointed Recorders are as follows:

Mr Edward CHAN King-sang, SC, JP

Mr Edward CHAN was born in 1950. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong in 1972. He was called to the English Bar and Hong Kong Bar in 1974 and 1975 respectively. He has been in private practice in Hong Kong since 1975. In 1989, he was appointed as a Queen's Counsel. Mr CHAN was appointed Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 1995.

Mr Ronny WONG Fook-hum, SC, JP

Mr Ronny WONG was born in 1947. After graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Hull University in 1969, he was called to the English Bar in 1970, and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1973. He has been in private practice in Hong Kong since 1970. He was appointed as a Queen's Counsel in 1990. Mr WONG was appointed Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 1995.
