The United Buddy Bears Exhibition, the first major event Hong Kong has organised jointly with an overseas organisation to promote public art, draws to an end today (June 27).
Since its opening in mid-May, the exhibition has attracted over 240,000 visitors, including students from primary and secondary schools and senior citizens from elderly centres.
Apart from displaying the artistic Buddy Bears, a number of fringe activities were arranged on Sundays to encourage public participation.
A Prize Presentation Ceremony was held today to present awards to the winners of two fringe activities - the Story Book Design Competition and the Buddy Bears Design Competition.
Today's officiating guests included Chief Leisure Manager (Major Events) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mrs Li Choi Wing-kwan; Senior Liaison Officer of the Home Affairs Department, Mr Chim Chun-yuen; and Founders of the United Buddy Bears Project, Dr Klaus Herlitz and Mrs Eva Herlitz.

The United Buddy Bears Exhibition organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Home Affairs Department, the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation and Buddy Bear Berlin, and assisted by the Hong Kong Tourism Commission, the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hong Kong opened on May 16 at the Central Lawn of Victoria Park. The exhibition aimed to promote the messages of love, peace and solidarity, as well as to foster public art. It also helped raise funds for the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Committee for Unicef and the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation to help those in need. The proceeds received exceed $5 million.
