30,000 day-old chicks arrive in local farms

*******************************************

A total of 30,000 day-old chicks have arrived at 12 local farms today (June 25) following the resumption of chick imports from the Mainland.

A spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Agriculture Department said the first consignment came from three Mainland registered farms.

He said the consignment, covered by health certificates, met the inspection and quarantine requirements agreed between Hong Kong and the Mainland authorities.

The suspension of import of day-old chicks was introduced on January 30 to protect public health after suspected avian influenza cases had been reported in Mainland provinces.

Ends/Friday, June 25, 2004
