Following is the transcript of the media session by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, after attending the Opening Ceremony of the Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair 2004 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this morning (April 28):
Question: What is your advice to small investors on buying government bonds?
Financial Secretary: As far as the government bonds programme is concerned, we are trying to achieve several goals. First is obviously to deepen and to broaden the debt market; second is to offer investors another choice in the form of the government bond. I must say that many small investors may not be familiar with the risks regarding the relationship between bond prices and interest rates, so every investor should carefully recognise and be aware of the risks of such kind of investment.
