Voluntary recall of wall-mounted electric fans

**********************************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department today (March 19) advised consumers to stop using SANYO model EF-12KA wall-mounted electric fans for safety reasons.

During a joint investigation of a fire incident by the department and the product's local agent, it was suspected that the durability of the internal connecting cable to the oscillatory fan head might not be adequate, leading to a potential electrical short-circuit after prolonged use. Subsequently, the local agent has taken the initiative to conduct a voluntary recall of the fans concerned.

According to the local agent, SANYO Electric (Hong Kong) Ltd, the fans concerned were supplied to the local market from March 1999 to September 2000.

Consumers are advised to return these fans to the local agent through designated collection centres as soon as possible. Their fans will be replaced with a new model of wall-mounted fan.

Consumers may contact the local agent's enquiry hotline 8108 3331 for details of the recall.

Ends/Friday, March 19, 2004
