*************************************************

The prize presentation ceremony of the Most Improved Primary Pupils Award Scheme (MIPPAS) 2003/2004 organised by the Education and Manpower Bureau, Po Leung Kuk, Yan Chai Hospital, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Subsidised Primary Schools Council was held today (February 14) to commend 1,377 pupils who achieved the best all-round improvement over the past school year.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education and Manpower (School Development), Mr Lee Kwok-sung, said, "In view of the changing economic structure, Hong Kong is now facing unprecedented challenges.

"The local education system is moving towards diversification. We hope that more and more students can develop their potential according to their own interests and strengths."

Mr Lee praised the awardees for their outstanding performance, which had proved that all students could fully develop their potential in academic subjects and other areas as well. He also thanked teachers, principals and parents for inspiring pupils' interest in learning and embracing challenges.

MIPPAS, which is open to Primary Three to Primary Six pupils, encourages students to challenge themselves to develop their full potential.

The scheme is open to all Government, aided, private and special schools which can nominate students who have attained the best all-round improvement in academic performance and other school performances, like conduct, service or extra-curricular activities over the past school year.

There were 738 primary schools participating in the 11th MIPPAS. Since its inception in 1993, more than 13,000 students have been awarded under the scheme.
