Police and the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA) seized 95 000 pieces of suspected pornographic video compact discs (VCDs) and 117 000 pieces of suspected pornographic digital video discs (DVDs) in a joint operation today (February 13) in Mong Kok.

Police officers from Police Tactical Unit of Kowloon West and Mong Kok District and officers from TELA raided four shopping arcades in Mong Kok at 1.00 pm.

A total of 95 000 obscene VCDs and 117 000 obscene DVDs were seized during the raids. The market value of the VCDs and DVDs seized is worth about $6.6 million.

Police also arrested eight men for publication of obscene articles.

The eight arrested men, aged from 39 to 63, were released on police bail at $10 000 each and required to report back two weeks later.
