Sixty-one applications to SARS Trust Fund approved

***************************************************

Sixty-one applications to the Trust Fund for SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) involving a total of $26.1 million have been approved at its meeting, a spokesman for the Social Welfare Department said today (November 26).

The spokesman said that at November 18, a total of 69 applications had been received. The Committee on Trust Fund for SARS has so far recommended that 61 of these be approved.

Caseworkers of the Social Welfare Department will approach the applicants individually to inform them of the results of their applications.

"No cases have been rejected so far. For the remaining eight applications, we are waiting for additional supporting information from the applicants," the spokesman explained.

Another 73 applications have been received from November 19 to 25. They will be considered in the next meeting of the committee.

The Social Welfare Department has set up a dedicated hotline (2892 5562) to answer questions about applications to the Trust Fund during office hours. Enquiries can also be faxed to 2893 6903.
