CS' transcript

**************

Following is the transcript of the remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, after casting his vote on the District Council Election Day this morning (November 23):

CS: This is a very important day for the second election for the District Councils of the SAR. We are going to elect 300 odd District Council members on this occasion. We know that the District Council works a very pragmatic and important role for the district covering law and order, urban services, health services, schools and so on. It is important for us to select those who can represent our views.

As you know, the SAR Government must be accountable to the public and we, as its citizens, should influence the government in making its policies in a way in which we make our wishes. The best way to do this is to elect our best representative, and to elect our own District Council members who can actually implement our views. I hope very much that each and every citizen who has registered for election today should come out and participate in the election before closing time at 10.30 pm today.
