Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, this (November 12) afternoon after attending the 18th Congregation for the Conferment of Honorary Degrees at the City University of Hong Kong:
Reporter: Mr Tang, did your announcement today have anything to do with your conversation with Mr Tung this morning?
Financial Secretary: I did not have a conversation with Mr Tung this morning.
Reporter: Mr Tang, what is your reaction to the students who may go on strike?
Financial Secretary: I respect their freedom to express themselves. As I have said, I encourage students to challenge traditional values and to explore new territories. I respect their decision.
Reporter: Mr Tang, do you expect them to cancel their class boycott next week after your announcement today?
Financial Secretary: I respect their freedom of expression. I am looking forward to the discussion (with student representatives). I have organized a session where I would be speaking to student representatives. I am looking forward to that session.
