Prospective nominees who plan to run in the 2003 District Council Elections are reminded to hand in their nominations as early as possible as the deadline is on Wednesday (October 15).
A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said election hopefuls were strongly advised not to hand in forms at the last minute.
"They should allow leeway to rectify mistakes in their entries, which can foil their nomination bid," he said.
Returning Officers in 18 districts have received 704 nominations since the two-week nomination period started on October 2.
One member will be elected for each of the 400 constituencies in the 18 District Councils on November 23.
Any registered elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before nomination may enter the poll.
Nomination forms are available at the 18 District Offices or the Registration and Electoral Office at 15/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
Nominees must submit a completed nomination form and a deposit of $3,000 in person to the Returning Officer concerned during normal business hours.
As the deadline is nearing, nominees are advised to pay the deposit in cash or cashier order to avoid risking their nomination being declared void due to a bounced cheque.
Each nomination must be subscribed by 10 registered electors of the constituency in which the nominee will be contesting a seat.
Nominees should play safe and solicit the support of more than 10 subscribers in case some subscribers fail in the eligibility checks. However, no more than 20 subscribers should be included on a nomination. Each elector is entitled to subscribe to only one nomination.
Enquiries on nomination procedures should be addressed to the Returning Officer of the constituency concerned or the election hotline at 2891 1001.
