More copies of the SARS Checklist for interested parties

********************************************************

More copies of the booklet" Checklist of Measures to Combat SARS" (Checklist) will be available later this week for the consumption of interested parties and members of the public, a spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food said today (September 23).

Although the Checklist has set out measures to be adopted by various parties in the public and private sectors to combat SARS, some members of the public have expressed their interest in learning more about these measures.

To this end, arrangement has been made to turn the Checklist into separated leaflets with different focuses for public consumption in the near future, the spokesman added.

As only a limited number of copies would be available for public consumption, the spokesman suggested interested parties and individuals to visit the bureau's website www.hwfb.gov.hk and download the document if needed.

"As the Checklist needed to be updated and fine-tuned when and where necessary, members of the public are advised to keep a soft copy if they are interested instead of keeping a hard copy.

"It will be a waste of limited resources and not environmentally friendly if we try to print a large quantity of copies for public consumption every time we revise the document," the spokesman said.

The Checklist, which sets out measures on prevention, surveillance and contingency planning for possible SARS outbreak, was revealed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong, yesterday (September 22).

In response to media enquiries, the spokesman said the first batch of 1,000 copies was mainly for distribution to the key players -- government bureaux and departments, health authorities, the media, and community leaders including legislators and District Council chairmen/vice-chairmen as well as consular corps.

An additional 20,000 copies, will be available later this week in batches for distribution to schools and Home Affairs Department's district offices.
