Judicial Appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

The Judiciary announced today (September 11) the appointment of Mr Michael Victor LUNN, SC as the Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.

The appointment, which is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission, will take effect from September 15, 2003. Mr Lunn who now holds office as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court will cease to be a Recorder with effect from the same date.

The biographical note of Mr LUNN is as follows:

Mr Michael Victor LUNN was born in 1950 in Zimbabwe. He obtained B.A. (Law) and a M.A. degree from Cambridge University in 1972 and 1976 respectively. He was called to the English Bar (Inner Temple) in 1973 and the Hong Kong Bar in 1981. In 1994, he was appointed Queen's Counsel. He was in private practice in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 1977 and worked in the Attorney-General's Chambers in Hong Kong from 1977 to 1981. From 1982 to 2003, he was in private practice in Hong Kong. Mr LUNN was the Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association from January 2001 to January 2003 and he was appointed as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 2000.
