Department of Health's response on SARS case

************************************

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) said tonight (September 8) that the department is seeking more information from its Singaporean counterpart on reports that a local Singapore man has just been tested positive for SARS.

The spokesman said: "Hong Kong will closely monitor developments and remain on high alert. Surveillance and preventive measures have been kept in place, and health checks on in-coming travelers from Singapore are being enhanced at Hong Kong International Airport. In addition, health cards are being distributed to these travelers."

The spokesman called on members of the public to continue to pay special attention to personal and environmental hygiene, which is important to prevent the return of SARS.
