Notes:
1. The base period for the Consumer Price Indices is October 1999 to September 2000.

2. The CPI(A), CPI(B) and CPI(C) are compiled by reference to the average expenditure patterns for different
groups of households as obtained from the Household Expenditure Survey. By aggregating the expenditure
patterns of all households covered by the above three indices, a Composite CPI is also compiled. The CPI(A),
CPI(B) and CPI(C) respectively cover some 50%, 30% and 10% of households in Hong Kong. The average
monthly household expenditures (in HK$) of these groups in the base period (that is October 1999 to September
   2000) were $4,500 to $18,499, $18,500 to $32,499 and $32,500 to $65,999 respectively. The Composite CPI
covers 90% of households, which had an average monthly household expenditure of $4500 to $65999 in
the same period. Taking into account the impact of price changes since the base period, the monthly
household expenditure ranges of the CPI(A), CPI(B), and CPI(C) adjusted to the price level of 2002 are
broadly equivalent to $4,300-$17,500, $17,500-$30,900 and $30,900-$62,700 respectively, and that of
the Composite CPI is broadly equivalent to $4,300- $62,700.

3. Apart from 'Private housing rent' and 'Public housing rent', the 'Housing' section also includes
'Management fee and other housing charges' and 'Tools and materials for house maintenance'.

4. 'Public housing rent' is not a constituent of the CPI(C).

5. Apart from 'Educational services', 'Telephone and other communications services', and 'Medical services',
the 'Miscellaneous services' section also includes other miscellaneous services.

6. 0% denotes a figure within +0.05% and -0.05%.
