Police spare no efforts to combat illicit ticket scalping
*********************************************************

Police spare no efforts to combat illicit ticket scalping activities in the light of the fact there is an overwhelming response to the tickets for the Real Madrid match to be held on August 8 at Hong Kong Stadium.

A Police spokesman said today (August 1) that under Section 6 of the Places of Public Entertainment Ordinance, Cap. 172, it was an offence to sell or offer for sale in a public place any ticket for the match or in other places at a price exceeding the amount fixed by the organiser.

On ticket scalping activities through websites, the spokesman said that the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) was keeping a close watch on the internet websites to see if there were any such illicit activities.

Moreover, CCB was keeping in touch with Internet Service Providers (ISPs), which agreed to remove all such messages after knowing that it was in breach of the law, he said.

"Police will follow up on complaints from members of the public on such activities."

"We call on the members of the public not to buy tickets from these sources as the tickets they offered to sell may be counterfeit," he said.

The spokesman added that Police continued to maintain close contact with the Hong Kong Football Association to monitor the situation.

Details of crowd management and traffic arrangements on August 8 would be announced next week, he said.
