*****************************************

Police arrested five men in an anti-triad operation started yesterday (July 30) in Lok Ma Chau.

After prolonged investigations into intelligence gathered, Police officers of the Regional Crime Unit and Regional Anti-triad Unit of New Territories North mounted an undercover operation in San Tin to combat triad controlled illegal activities.

The operation targeted at illicit activities including assault, criminal damage, criminal intimidation, and blackmail in the area.

Police yesterday (July 31) raided 13 locations in the area and arrested 5 men aged between 23 to 62 in connection with trafficking in dangerous drugs, claiming to be members of triad society and the selling of illegal marked oil.

A subsequent search in a bush in San Tin lead to the seizure of 25 buckets of illegal marked oil each in 20 liters today (July 31).

The five men are still being detained for enquiries.

A Police spokesman said that similar operations would be conducted on a regular basis in order to curb triad related activities.
