Police neutralise counterfeit banknote syndicate

Police have neutralised a counterfeit banknote manufacturing syndicate following the arrest of five men and the seizure of 70 pieces of suspected fake banknote yesterday (July 30).

After extensive investigations into intelligence gathered, officers of the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West mounted an operation targeting at a counterfeit credit card and counterfeit banknote syndicate in Sham Shui Po.

At about 10.15 pm, Police officers raided a flat on No.33 Boundary Street lead to the arrest of five men aged from 19 to 29 and the seizure of 69 pieces of $500 and one piece of $1 000 counterfeit banknotes.

A computer and three printers, which was believed to be used for manufacturing the fake banknotes, and a small amount of suspected "ice" and smoking paraphernalia were also seized during the operation.

The five men are still being detained for enquiries.

Investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West are proceeding.
