The 2003 Edition of the "Statistical Digest of the Services Sector" is published by the Census and Statistics Department today (July 31).
Over the past decade, the Hong Kong economy has undergone a remarkable structural transformation. Services have gained great prominence. Good and detailed statistics play an important role in support of government's initiatives on services promotion. The Census and Statistics Department has accordingly compiled this publication.
The Digest brings together in one volume the important statistical series on the 14 major service industries/domains of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Different types of statistics for a specific service industry/domain are collated in a dedicated section, supported by graphical presentations, for easy reference and interpretation. Most of the statistics presented cover the period from 1992 to 2002, in the form of six yearly figures as at the year-end position in the main, and where appropriate supplemented with statistics for the fourth quarter of 2002 to provide some up-to-date information on the services sector of Hong Kong.
This Digest (HK$94 per copy) and other publications of the Census and Statistics Department can be purchased in person from:

Softcopies of the publications purchased are available for immediate downloading while hardcopies purchased will be delivered by mail. Subscription to regular publications and advance ordering of upcoming releases are also available. The Statistical Bookstore is hosted on the ESD portal (Address: http://www.esd.gov.hk) together with other public services.
A mail order form for ordering or arranging subscription to hardcopies of publications is available in most publications of the Census and Statistics Department.
