CS' transcript

***********

The following is the transcript (English portion) of the media session by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, on a working session of the Mainland/Hong Kong Conference on the Co-ordination of Major Infrastructure Projects at the lobby of the Central Government Offices (West Wing) this afternoon (July 30):

Mr Tsang: I am going to Beijing to attend a working session on the Mainland/Hong Kong infrastructure co-ordination conference. This is to update the progress on various consultancy studies, one on the road link between Hong Kong and the western part of the Pearl River Delta; as well as another project we are interested in, that is the express rail link between Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. My work with my colleagues there would be to prepare ourselves for the next round of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Joint Conference to be held very shortly.

Question: This seems to be a hastily prepared trip. Is there any sense of urgency in any particular project?

Mr Tsang: No, it is not hastily arranged. Ms Sarah Liao has been following these projects quite periodically over the last few months. There has been an on-going feasibility study by consultants and the consultants have been visiting Hong Kong. I think the consultancy study is now reaching finality. I want to update myself and make sure we are making full preparation for the next joint conference we have with the Guangdong authorities.
