MPFA pursues four claims for MPF non-payment

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 24) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $41,700 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendants were Sum Hei Engineering Limited, Kingease Engineering Limited, Cheng Chi Kwong & Cheng Lai Wah trading as Good Luck Restaurant and Creation International Holdings Limited trading as I. Mart Optical Shop.

At today's hearing, Sum Hei Engineering Limited and Creation International Holdings Limited trading as I. Mart Optical Shop did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $23,150.43 and $4,833.70 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other defendants, namely, Kingease Engineering Limited, Cheng Chi Kwong & Cheng Lai Wah trading as Good Luck Restaurant did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $8,308.21 and $5,507.12 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the relevant employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. Amounts of $210, $240, $110 and $260 were also awarded respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
