One-girl band to play three concerts

************************************

the pancakes, a one-girl band having taken Hong Kong by storm, will give three concerts in September.

This versatile young musician and composer will show her unique style at "The Pancakes' Concert for One Second" at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre at 8pm, September 6 (Saturday) and 3pm and 8pm on September 7 (Sunday).

In 2000, the pancakes teamed up with a Spanish recording company to explore the European markets. She has since released four albums and her compositions have frequently been used in public and private sector advertising, gaining her a reputation in local music circles.

In the concerts, she will share with the audience her views on friends, family and career via pieces including "turn the table", "the fourth of april", "dear friend", "i want to fly", "balloon" and "rock guitar". the pancakes will also recount her disorientation during her adolescence, struggles with love and uneasiness in "skinner's mouse", "never mind", "sometimes i just can't remember all the things we did together", "if i had the choice", "number 3", "late autumn" and "one second". With "sunlight" and "clouds", she will offer encouragement to young people experiencing growing pains.

As well as its usual electronic musical instruments, the pancakes will perform with a small orchestra at the concerts. A profusion of classical violin, cello, trumpet, flute and piano with electronic music will give songs a fresh interpretation.

Visually, the concerts also promise an exciting mix. Young painters Chi Hoi, Chan Chi Cheung and Kwok Ying have been invited to transform their works of art into animated cartoons in juxtaposition with videos, lights, stage effects and the music.
