Exhibition of Jaffa Lam's mixed-media works opens tomorrow

**********************************************************

Works by the mixed-media artist Jaffa Lam will be on show at the Exhibition Gallery of Sha Tin Town Hall from tomorrow (July 25) until August 4.

Entitled "Murmur ¢w Works by Lam Laam Jaffa", the exhibition is a communication between the artist and the audience in which familiar things are modified to fulfill new meanings and purposes.

Lam herself is lively, creative and energetic, qualities that are reflected in her work. She loves to play, and so her works always contain pleasant surprises for the audience. Because they are interactive, Lam's works enable the audience to actually feel the pleasures of creation.

Speaking at today's (July 24) opening ceremony, the Acting Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Gerard Tsang Chu-chiu, noted that Lam excels in giving new meanings to familiar things.

"Visiting Lam's exhibition is like visiting a playground. When going into her playground, we have to become like children with endless curiosity, and then we will hear the words from the bottom of her heart," Mr Tsang said.

Lam's works always leave room for the audience to explore. The four sets of wooden exhibits on display -- "To someone wants to cry", "To someone wants to run", "To someone wants to hide" and "To someone wants to fly" -- will enable the audience to read the artist's mind from different angles.

"Murmur ¢w Works by Lam Laam Jaffa" is the fifth solo exhibition launched under the Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme II. The Scheme is organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It is also a partnership project with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, aiming to promote local visual arts to the community.

Following the exhibition at the Sha Tin Town Hall, the artworks will be displayed at the Main Foyer of Yuen Long Theatre from August 7 to August 29. Admission is free.

To facilitate group and school visits, free guided-tours are available. For information, please contact the Community Art Team of the APO on 3101 2712 or 3101 2713. For a more in-depth look at Lam's experience of artistic creation, see website at http://www.artistneighbourhood.info/.
