Chief Executive meets British Prime Minister

The Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, held a bilateral meeting with the visiting British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, at Government House this (July 23) morning.

The Chief Executive told Mr Blair how Hong Kong had bounced back with resilience and vigour after containing the SARS outbreak.

They noted the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle in Hong Kong over the past six years, and that despite the recent difficulties, Hong Kong had coped well.

Mr Tung also talked about the new opportunities brought about by the Mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and the enhanced cooperation between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region.

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang; the acting Financial Secretary, Mr Stephen Ip; the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Henry Tang; the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr Yeoh Eng-kiong; and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr W K Lam, also attended the meeting.
