The Government announced in the Gazette today (July 18) the appointment of Mr Arthur Leong Shiu-chung, GBS, as the Chairman of the Administrative Appeals Board (AAB) for a term of three years with effect from August 1, 2003.

A Government spokesman said, "We are pleased about the appointment, especially given his profound legal knowledge and previous experience in leading the AAB." Mr Leong was appointed the first Chairman to the AAB from 1994 to 2000.

Mr Leong retired from his public office as the Chief Judge of the High Court in mid July 2003. He will succeed Mr Michael Wong Kin-chow, GBS, JP, as the Chairman of the AAB starting from August 1, 2003. Mr Wong has tendered his resignation from the chairmanship of the AAB following his recent appointment as the Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission to take effect also from August 1, 2003.
