About 400 budding musicians from the 2003 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp will give two afternoon concerts in early August to mark the completion of their intensive training.
The concerts will be held at 3pm on Sundays, August 3 and 10 at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium and the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre respectively.
The music camp, which will be held from July 27 to August 9 at Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village, is being organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and Tom Lee Music.
The campers will receive intensive training from renowned overseas and local conductors as well as participate in various recreational and sports activities.
The first concert on August 3 will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra, Youth Choir and Junior Chinese Orchestra under the batons of Mr Yu Feng, Head of the Department of Conducting Central Conservatory, China; Professor Robert Harris, Professor of Conducting and Director of Choral Organisations, Northwestern University, US and Mr Chen Ning-chi, Hong Kong Composer and Conductor.
Highlights of the programme include Beethoven's "Symphony No.2 in D Major, Op.36", Martin's "A Festival Psalm" and Chen Ning-chi's "Folk Tunes Medley of Taiwan".
The second concert on August 10 will be presented by the Chinese Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Junior Strings under the batons of Mr Kwok Hang-kei, Hong Kong Composer and Conductor; Mr Yeh Shu-han, Conductor of China Youth Corps Youth Band, Taiwan and Professor Helen Kwalwasser, Professor of Violin and Artistic Adviser of String Instruction of Temple University, US.
The programme includes Kwok Hang-kei's "Celebrating Lantern Festival", Chung Yiu-kwong's "Festive Celebration" and Mozart's "Divertimento for Strings, No.1 in D Major, K 136, 1st movement".
Tickets priced at $60 and $40 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. The concerts are under the Arts Care ticket discount scheme. For any purchase of tickets for cultural programmes with the Arts Care logo, patrons can receive a 20% discount for each purchase of four to seven tickets and a 40% discount for each purchase of eight or more tickets.
Patrons can also enjoy a 50% discount for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients or a 10% discount for Friends of Leisure and Cultural Services Department performing venues.
