Premier Wen Jiabao this morning (June 30) took a harbour cruise to visit a number of infrastructure projects.
The Premier was accompanied by Chief Executive Mr Tung Chee Hwa; Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Donald Tsang; Financial Secretary Mr Antony Leung; and Secretary for Justice Ms Elsie Leung.
Secretary for Economic Development and Labour Mr Stephen Ip and Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works Dr Sarah Liao, who were also on the launch, briefed Premier Wen on their respective sectors.
Mr Ip briefed Premier Wen on the latest developments in logistics. Hong Kong is working to maintain its position as a world-class port and an international maritime centre. In conjunction with all parties in the supply chain, the Government is promoting the growth of the logistics sector and the port as the preferred regional transportation and logistics hub.
The boat went via the Disneyland site at Penny's Bay, where Mr Ip briefed the Premier on the theme park development.
During the boat trip, Dr Liao briefed Premier Wen on the Tsing Ma Bridge and other major transport infrastructure projects on both sides of the harbour.
The party disembarked at Kwai Chung Container Port and visited Terminal 4, where the Premier and his entourage entered the administration building to view a model of the container port.
More than 80% of Hong Kong's freight tonnage and most of southern China's cargo pass through the port.
Later, Premier Wen inspected the control centre of the terminal and was given a multi-media presentation on the terminal's operations monitoring system and the ship planning system.
