Government House to be open to public on July 6 *************************************

Government House will be open on July 6 (Sunday) for the fourth time this year for the public to admire its architecture and take a walk in its garden, a Government spokesman announced today (June 29).

There will be a photo display in the ballroom, produced with the assistance of the Antiquities and Monuments Office, showing historical pictures of Government House and photographs of dignitaries received by the Government since the birth of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

"Visitors may pass by the Drawing Room and Dining Room where the Government often holds important official functions, such as banquets in honour of visiting heads of state, and honours and awards presentation ceremonies," he said.

Government House will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. All visitors are requested to enter by the east gate at Upper Albert Road and leave by the main gate.

The spokesman advised visitors not to travel by private car. Depending on the length of the queue, the Police may announce a cut-off time for lining up outside Government House to ensure that everybody in the queue can get into the garden in time.

The open day will be cancelled if weather is bad. Members of the public are advised to listen to public announcement in case of bad weather.
