DH's SARS website updated

To complement the World Health Organsation's (WHO) decision to take Hong Kong off the list of areas with recent local transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome(SARS), the Department of Health's (DH) SARS website has been updated today (June 23).

Members of the public are advised to continue to take stringent preventive measures to keep up with a high level of personal and environmental hygiene:

Remain vigilant to personal and environmental hygiene

* Wash hands frequently.

* Do not touch your eyes, mouth or nose with unclean hands.

* Do not litter or spit.

* Keep your household and living environments clean.

Pay attention to one's health

* If unwell or feeling feverish, seek prompt medical attention and stay home.

* Adopt healthy lifestyle. Do not smoke.

Wearing masks

* The general public is advised to wear masks under the following situations:

o Having symptoms of respiratory tract infection

o Looking after people with respiratory symptoms

o Visiting clinics or hospitals.

* Health care workers in clinical settings should wear masks.

Travellers

* Postpone traveling if not feeling well.

* Comply with disease prevention and control measures at airport and control points which include temperature checking and health declaration.
