CE's transcript

************

Following is the transcript (English portion) of a media session by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, after his visit to the Princess Margaret Hospital this (June 14) afternoon:

Reporter: Mr Tung, what will be done in hospitals in Hong Kong to handle infectious diseases outbreak?

CE: I am here to look at the whole lot of work being done in this hospital to prepare ourselves better in case SARS comes in to hit us again this winter or next spring. These include how to do a better job with the air-conditioning work, how to allow our frontline medical workers more room for changing, for resting, and more individual rooms with tools, so that they can be isolated when there is a need to do this. We are also looking to see whether we can on this slope put up another building, which has perhaps 100 beds, 100 rooms for isolation to treat the patients with epidemic diseases. I am here to look at this. I am also here to thank again the frontline medical workers for their tremendous effort they put in this fight. Thank you very much.
