Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

There is no new confirmed case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (June 5). This is the second time that Hong Kong recorded zero infection. The last time was May 24.

The number of patients recovered and discharged from hospital continues to rise to 1343. Of them, four were discharged today.

The number of SARS patients in intensive care unit is 23. These cases are part of the 73 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 48 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

One patient died in Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH). This brought to 284 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased was a woman aged 77. Her information is as follows:
