Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

There are three new confirmed cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (May 31). All three patients are healthcare workers of North District Hospital.

The number of patients recovered and discharged from hospital continues to rise to 1310. Of them, six were discharged today.

The number of SARS patients in intensive care unit continues to drop to 29. These cases are part of the 87 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 64 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

Four patients died in Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). This brought to 278 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased include two men and two women aged from 55 to 65. Their information is as follows:
