Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

There are four new confirmed cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (May 30). However, there is no SARS case involving healthcare worker.

The number of patients recovered and discharged from hospitals continues to rise to 1304. Of them, 2 were discharged today.

The number of SARS patients in intensive care unit continues to drop to a new low of 31 from 127 in mid-April. These 31 cases are part of the 93 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 65 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

One patient died in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH). This brought to 274 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased was a woman aged 78. Her information is as follows:
