Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority:

There are two new confirmed cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (May 27). However, there is no SARS case involving healthcare worker today.

The number of patients recovered and discharged from hospitals continues to rise to 1285. Of them, nine were discharged today.

On the other hand, the number of SARS patients in intensive care unit continues to drop to a new low of 32 from 127 in mid-April. These 32 cases are part of the 105 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 69 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

Two patients died in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and United Christian Hospital (UCH). This brought to 269 the total number of deaths relating to SARS.

The deceased include a man aged 80 and a woman aged 47. Their information is as follows:
